Anger Management for Men: A Practical Place to Start
Ervin Henderson LPCC · October 30, 2026
For many men, anger can become the emotion that shows up when stress, frustration, hurt, or feeling overwhelmed is difficult to put into words. Anger itself is normal, but learning to recognize its warning signs and choose how to respond can protect relationships, work, and overall well-being.
One practical resource used in counseling is the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Anger Management Participant Workbook, which draws on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) skills such as identifying triggers, tracking anger, challenging unhelpful thoughts, taking time-outs, and building a personal anger-control plan. These structured, evidence-informed techniques can help men practice responding to anger without letting it dictate their actions.
